By Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger
Good Tuesday Morning. As you are reading this I am preparing for my installation as the sixth Archbishop of Detroit. As I say goodbye, I want you to know that my seven years in the Diocese of Tucson have been among the happiest of my life. While the Bible is filled with examples of going out into the desert to encounter God, I failed to realize how wonderfully I would find Him in our beloved Sonoran Desert. While we oftentimes think of the clergy being the ones to inspire the laity, you will never know how much your faith in Jesus, and your love for His Church, deepens my own. Regardless of wherever our Lord leads me, I will carry you along with me in my heart.
Never fail to remember that you are a people of immense goodness, deep faith, and a powerful commitment to Jesus Christ—most especially as He is revealed in the poor, the hungry, the migrant, and the suffering. You are building the Kingdom of God. May you know every grace and blessing as you journey forward.
