In their 1992 pastoral letter “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response” the U.S. Bishops defined a Christian steward as “One who receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord.”
Genesis tells us that God placed the first human beings in a garden to practice stewardship there – “to cultivate and care for it” (Gen 2:15). The world remains a kind of garden (or workshop, as some would prefer to say) entrusted to the care of men and women for God’s glory and the service of humankind.
The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson was established in 1981 by Bishop Francis J. Green as a means by which donors could support the good works of the church on a long-term sustained basis through the establishment of endowed funds.
Today, the Foundation manages more than 70 endowed funds to support the diocese, parishes, schools and other Catholic entities in the Diocese of Tucson. For more information on how you can establish a named endowment or contribute to an existing endowment contact Nancy Kirk at 520-838-2508 or nancyk@diocestucson.org.
